Video Courses

We offer introductory Video 1 as well as advanced Video 2, Video 3, and Studio Production classes as well as a joint Speech/Digital Media Broadcast Journalism course.  Our award winning program provides haumāna with hands-on experiences and project based learning through internships, field trips and access to professional equipment.

Video 1 introduces students to a variety of media and the overall creative process to gain insight into basic production. In Video 2 & 3, haumāna build on their foundation and explore digital mo’olelo and empowering their voice to share their stories.  As students advance, they gain independence to choose and manage their own projects.

Puka Mai Ka Lā

Our students produce the High Schoolʻs daily news broadcast, Puka Mai Ka Lā.  Working behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera, our students gain credit through the Studio Production and Broadcast Journalism courses.  In Studio Production, students work together as a crew to produce Puka Mai Ka Lā.  They make the creative decisions in designing the set and show format as well as directing and taping the show.  They also brainstorm and produce Game Shows and segments as content for Puka Mai Ka Lā.

Broadcast Journalism is a class for those who want to report the news as anchors for Puka Mai Ka Lā.  Students gain real life experience as a journalist while producing news packages out in the field as well as reading from the teleprompter in the studio.  This is a joint course offered by the Speech Department in which students receive an Upper Level Speech credit.
