Farewell To Class Of 2019

June 29, 2015|gakovach

On Thursday, May 21st, our 8th grade class attended the Rite of Passage ceremony and officially ended their time as Kula Waena students.  A big part of the Rite of Passage was the Kahili Paʻa Lima ceremony.  Each student made his/her own kahili in the 8th grade Hawaiian language class.  For the past three years Kumu Kaponoʻai Molitau has been taking the lead in the kahili paʻa lima ceremony from teaching the students how to make the kahili, ensuring that the students understand the significance of the kahili and participating in the ceremony.  This was Kumu Kaponoʻai’s last year at kula waena and his last Rite of Passage – Kahili Paʻa Lima ceremony and his last 8th grade class.
