The English program at Kamehameha Schools—Kapalama High School requires eight semesters of course work that focuses on the growth, development and refinement of critical analysis, higher-order thinking, and writing skills within the context of Hawaiian and Global literature.  

Courses designated as “Hawaiian Pacific World Literature” (HPWL) utilizes more Hawaiian literature as well as a Hawaiian worldview in a comparative approach to canonical Western texts.
