Welina mai e nā ʻohana,
Welcome Families! Kamehameha Schools Maui is an ʻohana of students, parents, and staff. As the new School Year begins we have an opportunity to start fresh, to make new connections, to renew old connections; similar to the activity that takes place at ‘ohana reunions. Your opportunities to connect will be numerous when you look at things with a hopeful and open mind. How appropriate that this year’s school theme is Ke Ola Hou, New Beginnings!
Here are 3 steps to get started:
- Greet every parent, student, and teacher when you see them. A smile, a wave, a honi are great ways to acknowledge Kamehameha ‘ohana. This first gesture is important and sets the tone that you are approachable and you welcome others’ company.
- Have a conversation. At every opportunity, initiate a discussion to talk to others. You will create an environment where friendly conversation is what folks expect when they see you.
- Share yourself. Introduce yourself and provide some background on what you do, add personal likes and dislikes because this is what makes you interesting and unique!
I’m sure that when you take these steps you will develop relationships with Kamehameha ʻohana and your year will be off to a great start!
