Build a Passion for Reading

Informational Texts

Reading materials that explain how the world works are called Informational texts.  These can be books, brochures, signs, websites, blogs, newspapers, newsletters, etc. that are written to teach readers. Whether in very simple form or beyond the reading skills of your young reader, using informational text as a conversation piece is critical for ensuring that concepts are understood, vocabulary becomes familiar, and interest is continued.

The following sites provide a variety of topics and materials for appreciating and building a passion for reading informational texts.

This link, found on a blog response from teacher Kristin Ziemke, will take you to a collection of online informational resources.  You will find that these links are developed for a range of ages.  I hope through exploration with your child, you will find some sites that both of you will enjoy.
