Our First Lego League Tako Tech team members welcomed Dr. Ayron Strauch and Dean Uyeno from  the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources- Commission on Water Resource Management today during a class visitation. Dr. Ayron Strauch and Dean Uyeno informed students on their job duties as well as gave them input on their Nā Wai Eha research project. We feel so fortunate to have them take time from their busy schedules to explain the importance of taking care of our natural resources and how waters from streams affect our daily lives.

Congratulations to our new 2017-2018 Kamehameha Maui Elementary First LEGO League Robotics Team members!

Busy Programming their EV3 robots

Girls are excellent programmers!!!!

Every year, FIRST LEGO League releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has three parts: The Robot Game, the Project, and the Core Values. A team of up to ten children participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (RobotCHALLENGE®Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FIRST LEGO League Core Values.

Practicing their Team Building skills!

This yearʻs theme is Hydro Dynamics. This year’s Project challenge is to improve the way people find, transport, use, or dispose of water. By designing Challenges around such topics, participants are exposed to potential career paths within a chosen Challenge topic, in addition to solidifying the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles that naturally come from participating in the program. Team members also learn valuable life and employment skills which will benefit them no matter which career path they choose. Students from all across the nation are participating in these challenges. The official challenge was released on August 30th through the First LEGO League (FLL). The competition will be held on November 11, 2017 at the Kamehameha High School Campus.

We wish our FIRST LEGO League best of luck!

Lego Team 2016

imageimageThe First Lego Team Sushi Ninjas were so fortunate to have Mr. Dane Maxwell talk to us about his passion for drones.  He explained to us how a drone is built and how it flies and can capture video on its flight. The Phantom Drone is usually no heavier than 10 pounds and can fly as fast as 45 miles an hour.  The drone Mr. Maxwell built and races can reach speeds up to 80 miles per hour. Each of the team members got a chance to fly the drone high above the Kamehameha Kahekili field!  We appreciate having such knowledgeable ohana as a resource.

image image Our 5th grade team, the “Sushi Ninjas” has been working very hard to prepare for this year’s First Lego League competition on November 12 at Kamehameha High School Kaulaheanuiokamoku Gym. These dedicated haumana have been working every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school. This year’s theme is Animal Allies.  They are working as a team, practicing core values, designing an innovative solution to a real world animal problem and building a robot that will hopefully complete 15 missions on Challenge Day.
