Character Day Book Talk 2015

What is a book talk?

A book talk in Papa ʻEhā is an opportunity to verbally share with the class a book that you have read and finished! In your sharing,  you highlight exciting and interesting parts of the book, but you donʻt tell everything or the ending! You give the audience just enough to hook them, so theyʻre begging for your book to read!

To prepare over the Fall Break  for our Character Day Book Talk 2015, here are some steps to follow:

      1. Choose a chapter book that you have finished between August- October 11. If youʻre reading the book right now, you have over the break to finish the book by October 11.
      2. Choose a character in the chapter book that you will become. For this character day book talk, you will put yourself in the characterʻs shoe and become the character. This means you will “speak” and “act” like the character as you share about your book!
      3. Costumes can be homemade or store bought. Be creative! But remember the school rules. When in doubt, please check with Kumu for advice.
      4. The chapter book needs to be in your backpack everyday! After Fall Break, you will work on your book talk summary sheet. You will need the book to find quotes and text evidence to support your thinking.
        1. Talk stories with your Kumu if your book is a public or school library book.
      5. Watch these videos to get idea of a book talk
