It is always a beautiful day in Hawaiʻi nei and on our KS Hawaiʻi campus when keiki come to school in aloha attire on our aloha wear days. Today was such a day. Some girls come in beautiful shortie muʻu (or long ones), boys come with their stylish aloha shirts, some with shorts, some with blue jeans. It is all so uʻi.
That being said, we did have to talk to a handful of keiki about aloha attire. And I suppose it is an acquired skill…parents should have a good idea of what we mean when we say “aloha attire”. It is not just any old flower dress that you would find on the rack in a typical mainland store. It is specific to our islands!
E nā ʻohana, please kōkua. We WANT everyone wearing aloha wear that one designated day a month. It is an opportunity for keiki to get out of their uniform if they want, wear sandals (for girls), and nice jeans if they wish and show their aloha spirit. But do not let it be a chance to wear other clothes that clearly is not aloha attire. The photos above are great examples of aloha wear.
Mahalo for your support.
