Mahalo for your consideration in sending in healthy or non-candy treats for Halloween. We realize that, for the most part, Halloween and many of our holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas coming soon!), are all about candy. But this year in our Nā Pōkiʻi we kindly asked you to stay away from the sweet treats for our haumāna. Parents got creative. And we appreciate it.
There are many alternatives in lieu of sugary treats, whether it is for Halloween or Christmas or birthdays. We have our wonderful birthday book program (see Kumu Kanani’s blog for more info) and the pics above show a few more options. We want to be sensitive to the needs of our keiki, to be health conscious, to be cognizant of allergies to nuts and dairy (as a couple of examples) and to the fact that kids will be kids and sweet treats are plentiful no matter where they are. Our dining hall has been working on providing fresh fruits when possible and we continue to figure out ways to provide sustenance that provide our bodies with good nutrients.
Your kōkua is appreciated and your manaʻo is always valued.
