Past recipients of this award included Gladys Brandt, Pua Kanahele, Nainoa Thompson, Pua Wilhelm, and Kamuela Chun to name a few.
Kumu Crabbe, as his haumāna lovingly call him, has been employed at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi elementary division for nearly 12 years as the Hawaiian Language teacher. His first job with Kamehameha Schools was 22 years ago as a hula instructor with the Explorations Program on O’ahu, where he taught for a number of years. His first “real” teaching job was in 1988 where he was the second Hawaiian Language teacher at the Keaukaha Immersion School.
