At 9:45 am today the elementary and middle school campuses participated in a combination drill resulting in an alternate site evacuation. We began with a fire drill and ended with the alternate site evacuation which was, for practice purposes, the discus field on the side of the Pai’ea Stadium. There was a CERT (campus evacuation response team) tent set up, everyone knew their kuleana and it ran very smoothly. The teachers as well as all the Educational Assistants and office staff all pitched in to assist. Operations staff was on hand, high school administration participated and Peter Fuchs, Director of Campus Operations, was our Incident Commander. Mahalo nui to Morty Carter, Head of Security, for his leadership.
We hold these drills so that, in the event of an emergency, our haumana know exactly what to expect, our faculty and staff as well as all employees on our KSH campus know how to mālama (take care) of our haumāna and each other to ensure a safe outcome for all.
Mahalo to the CERT personnel, the health personnel, operations, security, and everyone else involved in helping to prepare everyone for success.
Congratulations faculty, staff and students on an outstanding drill!
Mahalo nui to Mr. Kudo (elementary lead) and our kula ha`aha`a Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) team (Mr. Kudo, Mrs. Kaneakua, Kumu Marcie, Mrs. Fortuna, Mrs. Rutherford, Mrs. Nae`ole-Wong) for ensuring optimal standards of safety year round.
Mahalo also to our amazing campus operations crew, our beloved aunties and uncles, who set up wonderful tents to make waiting patiently comfortable :-).
Finally, to Mr. Fuchs (Director of Campus Operations) and Mr. Carter (Head of Security), mahalo for all that you do to ensure we have what we need to evacuate orderly and safely.
This was a good way for everyone to practice what to do in the case of a real emergency. It was an important event for all of us (students, teachers, and staff.) It makes me feel more confident about what to do if this should ever really happen. Now, I even feel safer because we are all so well-prepared! Mahalo to everyone who helped with the drill.
