Our National Anthem sung by 4A

Our students have been studying the history of the Star Spangled Banner.  There is quite an interesting story behind it.  Please ask your children about it, you may learn an interesting fact that is new to you.

Kindergarten Music- August 2011

"No, Mom, we are not sleeping in class, we are rocking to the beat."

Our kindergarteners are experiencing many new things when they come to music class. Finding and keeping a stead beat is one important element of being part of an ensemble. In class we practice this many ways.  ONe is by listening to a soothing song (something like a lullaby) and rocking from side to side while tapping the beat softly on their knees. Keeping the eyes shut will help to internalize the beat, and not be distracted by their neighbor’s rocking.  Please help your child feel confident in tapping a beat by doing it to any song on the radio.

The 3rd graders are perfecting their mallet technique with some fun songs and exercises. Remember to hold those mallets as if they were bicycle handlebars and use your wrists.

Our National Anthem Contest

Are you sure you REALLY know all the words to the Star Spangled Banner? Not so easy if you have to put the lines of that beautiful poem in order like a jig saw puzzle. Team Kaori and Kamaha’o are our leaders with a quick 30 second reorder of all 4th and 5th grade teams. Lots of fun, learning and teamwork going on. Good job everyone!
