Aloha and welcome back to school and to music class. We are very excited to begin a new year of singing, moving, dancing and playing instruments.
For your viewing pleasure, the music blog: http://blogs.ksbe.edu/cydebus/ will be updated throughout the year. It will contain information regarding classroom activities, pictures and announcements. There are also links that can bring you to the photo gallery where past concert pictures ready for your perusal. If you would like to borrow the picture DVD of a certain concert so that you can make prints please let me know I would be happy to loan it to you.
The blog also contains links to music games as well as a Kamehameha site that has recordings of K.S. songs so that your child can practice various mele. Please take some time to view it and let me know how I can improve it to help your family be aware of the goings on in music class.
Information regarding The Kamehameha Keiki Choir will be coming out shortly. Rehearsals will remain on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and is open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.
Our concert schedule is set for this year so please mark your calendars for these events. The Christmas Concert is on Friday night December 7th at 6 p.m. and the Spring Concert will be on Friday night April 12th at 6 p.m. Both concerts are an integral part of the music curriculum and participation is mandatory for all Kula Haʻahaʻa haumana.
All students will be issued a blue music folder with songs that they are or will be working on in class. Students in grades 2-5 are responsible for bringing their folders to music class each day. Please check you child’s schedule so that you can help remind him to bring his or her folder to school on the appropriate day. We want to avoid those “AUĒ ʻAʻOHE HANA! “ as much as possible. If your child does lose his folder (or come to class three times without it) it will need to be replaced.
Students in grades K and 1 may leave their folders at home, however, please know that music will be sent home from time to time and should be placed in the folder for practicing at home. Singing with your child is a great way to spend valuable, FUN time together.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at cydebus@ksbe.edu or at 982-0271.
I look forward to seeing you soon and having a great year with your precious children.
