ʻImiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii – Huakaʻi 10/19
ʻImiloa means exploration driven by a sense of wonder and imagination!
Thatʻs exactly what are haumana experienced on our Huakaʻi to Hawaiʻiʻs Astronomy Center. Mahalo to Uncle Puna and Aunty Emily for helping us to make the connections between the rich traditions of our Hawaiian culture and history, and groundbreaking astronomical research.
This learning experience was unquestionably culturally relevant. Haumana gained understanding of themselves as Hawaiians in relationship to Hawaiian history and their ancestors. Connections were made between modern day and ancient astronomy/navigation/wayfinding.
Kionakapahu Lokoiʻa – Huakaʻi 10-7-16
Papa ʻElima were blessed with a beautiful day of cultural based learning at itʻs finest! Haumana got wet and dirty as they embraced learning about the history and significants of their Hawaiian Fishpond. Haumana behaved as servant leaders as they contributed meaningfully to the working and restoration of this ancient and natural habitat. Ultimately, haumana developed a better understanding of who they are as ʻOiwi through their ancestorʻs eyes.
Project Kuleana Na Anakala!
We were so blessed to have Na Anakala of Project Kuleana visit with Papa ʻElima. The uncles shared their extensive manaʻo regarding the many meanings of KULEANA and the purpose behind this glorious cultural endeavor!
Our haumana learned so much about what makes them an Hawaiian and what makes Hawaiian music special and different from other forms of music.
Mahalo Nui to Kumu AhHee for inviting us to be part of this most valuable and meaningful culture-based learning experience. And to real Hawaiian Heroes…Aloha and Mahalo to Uncle Sean, Uncle Kihei and Uncle Kamakoa!
