Welcome Class of 2016!

Welcome Back Seniors!

My name is Mrs. Correa and I will be your college counselor.  Most of our time together will be utilizing naviance this year.  There will be many opportunities for you to learn and ask questions about this program in relation to your post high school pursuits.  Naviance will be our PRIMARY venue to apply to schools, request transcripts and request letters of recommendation from your teachers.  Our first class together will be in September.  Please see the senior seminar tab for more details.  Yet, if you would like to get a jump start and want to meet with me (and/or your ‘ohana) to start planning your post high school plans, please contact me for an appointment.

I look forward to working with you and your ‘ohana this year.

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!!

As the new year starts we are moving 100% forward with full implementation and usage of NAVIANCE.  This year, seniors will be using ONLY naviance to complete their college applications and research college/community scholarships.

Class of 2015 and Class of 2016 ‘ohana have received emails to complete an online naviance tutorial for Family Connection.  Once you complete those tutorials, you will be emailed at a later date on naviance registration instructions.  With your access to naviance, you will be able to see all that your child is doing, researching and pursuing in colleges, careers, and majors.

Class of 2017 and Class of 2018 will be introduced to Family Connection early Spring 2015.

Spring College Reminders

Aloha Seniors,

Please remember:

1) Turn in award letters and acceptance letters to Mr. Hubbard or Mrs. Correa as soon as possible (to prepare for Senior Award Night)

2) Senior Award Night will be held on May 20, 2014 at 6:00pm in Keopuolani Hale.  Seniors recognized for academic, athletic and community scholarships and awards.  Each Academy will also be recognizing their “outstanding senior” at this event.  All seniors are invited to attend, those receiving awards will be asked to be seated on stage for individual recognition.  Please feel free to contact Mr. Hubbard or Mrs. Correa if there are any questions.

3) Please do not make any FINAL college decisions until you have received “confirmed” financial aid award letters.  Once you have made a decision on your school, please follow through with the schools’ acceptance packet requirements.  For example, housing deposit, intent to enroll form, etc..

4) Once you have made a final decision, be sure to request a final high school transcript with Ms. Quisqurin AND if you are currently in UH Maui Dual Credit Classes, please go to Student Services at UH Maui and request a transcript from them as well (advice:  request two (2) – one for your school of choice and one for you to keep and take with you to school to have when you meet with your academic advisor).

5) Once you have committed (last day to commit will be May 1, 2014 for most colleges/ schools), please make contact with other schools to “decline” admissions.  This will allow those schools to offer admission to other students.

Happy Spring!

Aloha Seniors and ‘ohana,

There is a lot going on this semester in post high planning!  Mr. Hubbard joined us at the end of the Fall semester to assist with the college and post high planning since I have been taken away so much in the launch of Naviance this year.  He comes with years of college and post high experience and has been a great asset to our department this year.

Senior Individual Meetings – Mr. Hubbard has been meeting with ALL seniors on an individual basis for the Spring 1:1 meetings.  It has given him a great opportunity to meet the seniors and help Mrs. Correa in working with seniors in planning their post high plans.

Scholarships- Keep going!!!

Recommendation:  1) Keep copies of everything!  2) Make a portfolio of your “greatest” accomplishments and attach that to all of your scholarship applications.  Use this time to BRAG about your accomplishments and achievements  3) Have someone check your application before you submit to MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING you need for the application.  Once you submit, it doesn’t look good to “add” anything about submission.

Acceptance Letters – May we please ask to bring in copies of ALL of your acceptance letters and give them either to Mr. Hubbard, Mr. Akeo or Mrs. Correa for class documentation purposes.
