Asking Open-Ended Questions

In order to build higher-level thinking skills, it is important to ask questions that require more than a yes/no reply or one and only one possible answer.  Begin to ask your child more open-ended questions.  These are questions that could have multiple answers.  For example, rather than ask your child, “What is 7 x 8?”, ask them, “What are all the ways to make 56?”.  Another example could be, “How are 575 and 850 alike and different?”  Try it out!
