  • Keep body straight
  • Start with hands together (prayer position)
  • Arms fully extended
  • Arms move together, don’t pass shoulders on pull
  • Bend leg, kick out, squeeze together
  • Looks like a frog (smooth flow)
  • Generate power from legs
Breaststroke

TEACHER

Able to perform 3 or more of the following skills within a 25-yard segment:

 

  • Fluid glide
  • Arms not past shoulders on pullback
  • Arm and leg movement together
  • Frog kick correctly

 

Able to perform 2 of the following skills within a 25-yard segment:

 

  • Fluid glide
  • Arms not past shoulders on pullback
  • Arm and leg movement together
  • Frog kick correctly

 

Able to perform less than 2 of the following skills within a 25-yard segment:

 

  • Fluid glide
  • Arms not past shoulders on pullback
  • Arm and leg movement together

Freestyle

STUDENT

  • Breath to the side
  • One ear in water when breathing
  • Breath while pulling through water
  • Face in water when not breathing in
  • Kick while breathing
  • Flutter kick, up down motion
  • Kick only with knees and ankles
  • Reach forward, stretch, pull through hips
  • Stay straight- keep your hips up
  • Don’t slap water.
