We’ve been learning a lot about our families and families that might be different from our own. Usually when we learn about things we start to wonder about them. What are some things you wonder about your family?

Last week we talked about the meaning of Easter.  At our Easter chapel service this year, we heard about Bethany Hamilton and the strength she has found through Jesus.  Take a look at this video of Nick Vujicic (click on the words, “Nick on Video” above) , who was a special guest speaker here in Honolulu during our Easter weekend.  What comments do you have?

You guys remember we watched a movie in science class about trash? What did you learn? Do you think trash is important or not? If you think trash is important why? And if you don’t think trash is important why not?

The fifth graders put on a wonderful and very educational performance today!  What did you learn about Kalaupapa?  About Hansen’s disease?  About how disease affects the world?  Why do you think it’s important to know these things?

Wow! What a blessing it was for us to attend Friday’s chapel service with Sarah Hill as guest speaker.  She reminded us about Peter’s experience walking on water with Jesus in Matthew 14.  Sarah also talked about her friendship with Bethany Hamilton and the time she spent with Bethany in the hospital after Bethany was attacked by a shark and lost her arm.  Sarah even shared her own experiences with injury and disappointment.  What important messages did you receive that morning?  What connections did you make?

Last night I got to watch a new Johnny Test! What do you think of T.V shows or cartoons? What is your favorite T.V show or cartoon? Why do you like that T.V show or cartoon? Tell me in this blog post, T.V. Time!

On Friday, 3/18 we were very fortunate to participate in a writing workshop with Margaret Peterson Haddix, the author of Dexter The Tough, The Girl with 500 Middle Names, the Missing series and many other books.  She talked about how to develop characters in your stories.  What did you learn from her that you think is important to remember?  How do you think she applied her ideas for character development when she wrote Dexter The Tough?  How can you use what you learned from her in your next story?

Imagine  you  are a kid and you take karate and you are good at it.  And you capture bad guys. What moves will you make? Will you keep it a secret that you are a karate kid? Would you use the punch of death and kick? Or another move?  What kind of tricks would you do?  Use your imagination.  Be specific. Please answer all these questions.

Did you get freaked out when the tsunami was coming? Did anyone in your family get hurt because of the tsunami? Did you go to someone’s house? Were you okay when the tsunami came? What did you do on Friday?
