Quarter 1 Service learning project: Bead for Life<\/p>\n

Freshmen were introduced to the Kahiau Project (Service Learning Opportunity) during their Guidance Cycle II class that focused on introducing the Student Support Center and its services. Students participated in the internationally renowned\u00a0Bead for Life<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>project, aimed at increasing the well-being of African women and their families through beads. Each freshman contributed at least one bead to the project, which in turn will fund homes, medical supplies, educational opportunities for women and their families. The participation was infectious as sophomores witnessed the project unfolding and participated as well.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This event culminated with a jewelry making workshop hosted by Tutu Alice Mau. She assisted students in creating earrings and bracelets out of the recycled beads that students made. Students volunteered time and creativity to mold and shape beautiful pieces and the sale successfully began in the second week of November.<\/p>\n
