{"id":34,"date":"2012-01-26T21:00:11","date_gmt":"2012-01-26T21:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/ssc\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2012-01-26T21:00:11","modified_gmt":"2012-01-26T21:00:11","slug":"service-learning","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/ssc\/service-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"Service Learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kahiau: Service Learning<\/p>\n<p>In the spring 2010 collaboration between the Character Education coordinator and the Student Support Center staff yielded a few ideas of how the potential of the SSC could be harnessed to support service learning projects. Below are a few of the ideas that were generated from those early brainstorming sessions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students could attend during Activity Period and projects could be tailored to be available for participants during all periods.<\/li>\n<li>Once a month workshop style activities themed each quarter; possibility to have link with academics (with collaboration from departments)<\/li>\n<li>Advertisements: Signage and Pukamaikala<\/li>\n<li>Student driven- survey to be created at beginning of year and implemented perhaps during guidance session when introduced to the center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another idea was to pair activities with media- movie or book or both that address a theme! Special showings could be done and talk story sessions to accompany.<\/p>\n<p>What was birthed were the following:<\/p>\n<p>Quarter 1 Service Learning project:\u00a0<a title=\"Bead For Life\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/mayahiro\/bead-for-life\/\">Bead for Life<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Quarter 2 Service Learning project: Stone Soup (Gift of Giving)<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"M&amp;M Monthly Movies\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/mayahiro\/mm-monthly-movies-2\/\">Monthly Movie<\/a>\u00a0Showings of Scientific Documentaries regarding\u00a0<a title=\"March 4th: The Cove\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/mayahiro\/mm-monthly-movies-2\/mm-monthly-movies\/\">animal rights<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a title=\"April 12th: Food Inc.\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/mayahiro\/mm-monthly-movies-2\/april-12th-food-inc\/\">food industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Egg-sperience\u2026\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/mayahiro\/2011\/04\/09\/egg-sperience\/\">Earth Day<\/a>\u00a0event- &#8220;Egg-xpress yourself&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Technology Workshops- Keynote and Prezi<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kahiau: Service Learning In the spring 2010 collaboration between the Character Education coordinator and the Student Support Center staff yielded a few ideas of how the potential of the SSC could be harnessed to support service learning projects.
