{"id":25,"date":"2012-01-19T23:40:22","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T23:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/snbento\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2012-01-30T22:51:09","modified_gmt":"2012-01-30T22:51:09","slug":"papa-elua","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/snbento\/papa-elua\/","title":{"rendered":"Papa \u2018Elua"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"right\"><strong>Ka Papa \u2018\u014clelo a Mo\u2018omeheu Hawai\u2018i<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"right\">Ke Kula Ha\u2018aha\u2018a \u2018o Kamehameha \u2013 Kap\u0101lama<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Ka Papa Ha\u2018awina Nui (General Course Overview):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The primary goal of the K-3 Hawaiian language and culture program is to develop the students listening and speaking skills while also building their awareness for their Hawaiian culture.\u00a0\u00a0 Students will practice interpersonal communication skills by participating in face-to-face interactions with classmates, teachers and visitors.\u00a0\u00a0 They will engage in interpretive communication by following directions and commands, and by demonstrating their understanding of simple questions, everyday words and statements relating to their immediate environment, themselves or in other daily activities.\u00a0 Traditional and contemporary mele, pule, oli and mo\u2018olelo are infused throughout the curriculum to reinforce vocabulary, phrases and concepts.\u00a0\u00a0 Hawaiian customs and traditions are practiced with an emphasis on building cultural understanding and developing cultural protocols and awareness in a practical, functional setting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Ka Papa Ha\u2018awina Nui o N\u0101 Papa (Grade Level Overview):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">N\u0101 Wa\u2018a \u2018Ohana<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In Papa \u2018Elua, haum\u0101na focus their study on Hawaiian culture, protocol and customs through mo\u2018olelo (stories).\u00a0 As an important piece of cultural vibrancy, the oral traditions of storytelling are also supported through contemporary mediums in the form of movies or videos.\u00a0\u00a0 They learn about the pilina between Akua, kanaka and \u2018\u0101ina.
