Morning Meeting W/KB – Living Active & Healthy Lives!
Our Papa Mala’o (Kindergarten Class) in Mrs. Nihipali’s class is learning about living active and staying healthy through exercise and the food that we eat. This morning we talked about the many ways we can live active and be healthy. Our students agreed that eating fruits, veggies and drinking plenty of water will keep you healthy. Others shared playing sports like baseball, soccer, and even karate will keep you active. Today, we participated in a Zumba Fitness Workout! We took our fitness a bit further and did Zumba Toning! The students recycled their juice bottles, filled them with sand to create their own toning sticks. Yes, we worked our muscles and had a fun cardio workout! Mahalo Ms. Lee for joining us!
National Poetry Month 2012
We are getting ready for Poem In Your Pocket Day! Our students in Papa ‘Ekāhi are busy writing original poems in celebration of National Poetry Month. They wrote a couplet poem about an event, experience, or holiday and a cinquain word poem about themselves. Poem In Your Pocket Day is on Friday, April 20th. Do YOU have your poem ready?
iPad & Skyping with Author!
Our 3rd and 5th grade class had an awesome opportunity to Skype with 2011 Nene Award Winner, author Michael Buckley. It was a time of learning and a time of asking curious questions about writing a book. Mahalo Nui to Mrs. Nalani Naluai, Library Media Specialist @ the Hi’ilei Media Center Kapālama for inviting us to this event!

Introducing an Award-Winning Author Ying Ching Compestine. Ying is the author of many children’s books, cookbooks and novels. She has visited schools throughout the US and abroad, sharing with students her journey as a writer, how her life in China inspired her writing, and the challenges of writing in her second language. Beautiful Hā’ena
On Monday, the faculty and staff of Ke Kula Ha’aha’a visited Beautiful Hā’ena. It was a time of learning, a time of launa, a day of pilina and a time of connecting oneself to the ‘āina. Mahalo nui to Mr. Tom English for hosting us and a mahalo nui to our Lōkahi Team for making this day happen!
Sharing Resources with our KS Preschoolers
Mahalo Nui to our KS Preschool (Keaukaha Site) for visiting us in the Learning Center. As part of their community helper’s unit, they visited our campus and learned about the different kuleana (responsibilities) of each division at our Kula (school). We had a wonderful time in the Library. A time of fellowship, learning about the library, and watching some story videos from our online eBooks collection.
Gathering Information & Citing Sources
Our Papa ‘Ekolu is busy using their note-taking skills and gathering information. Using the “Welcome To My Country” series, they are learning some facts about the various countries in our world; Isreal, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and Singapore to name a few. In their own words, these third graders are sharing things they have learned about their country, and gathering the appropriate elements for their bibliography. Way to go Papa ‘Ekolu!
Character Ties
Our 5th graders worked together in a fun activity called Character Ties. Working in partnership, they carefully thought about their character(s) in the book Tasi’s Gift and created neckties with images and used words that are representative of their character.
