Colonialism Essay (Note: We will take about half of each class to work on the essay; background research for Avatar project will also be assigned during class time.)
1/11-1/12: Plan the Essay
- Brainstorm your ideas (Thinking map modeled in class)
- Choose your question (#1 or #2; students with an A on DAPL formative assignment have been assigned #2)
- Create a plan: Outline or Web. This plan should include your:
- Thesis (specific answer);
- Main ideas; and
- Some of the details/supporting evidence to be used.
- HW: Essay Plan, Due 1/13 (Odd), 1/18 (even)
1/13-1/18: Draft the Essay
- Identify your supporting evidence.
- Use your resources (previous TIFF and DAPL assignments, 13 Colonies booklet, maps, etc) to find specific supporting detail for your main ideas.
- Mark the evidence you will use by adding it to your outline/web, or identifying it within your notes (highlight, star, number, etc).
- Begin writing your draft. (Follow your plan!)
- HW: Continue writing.
1/19-1/20: Continue writing. Essay due 1/23 (O), 1/24 (E)
1/23-1/24 Reread, revise, edit. Essay due today.
- Bring your (completed) draft.
- Reread, revise, get peer responses/edits, edit.
- Create Works Cited page.
- Turn in.
