End of Trimester 1: Trimester 1 ended last week Friday. I am working on progress reports and students are currently working on their ePortfolio that they will be presenting to you at Student-Led Conferences in two weeks. Progress reports are expected to come home on Tuesday, Nov. 13, so that ‘ohana may review prior to conferences. Please make sure to sign up for a conference time via sign up genius. ‘Ohana Survey: Please check your keiki’s folder today. I have included an ‘ohana survey that I would kindly appreciate your kōkua to complete:). I have also included a QR code in case you would rather complete survey digitally.
Halloween Events and Parade: I have sent an attachment of the flyer concerning Halloween parade via email. Please make sure your keiki does not come dressed in their Halloween costume. Please send costume to school with them and they will change into costume after lunch. Prior to parade starting at 12:45, keiki will be enjoying Halloween activities in our classrooms and pod area from 11:30-12:30. Mahalo to you, ‘ohana, for taking your time to come, set up, and manage this amazing event for our keiki. It wouldn’t be possible without your kōkua and aloha.
Water Bottles: Please don’t forget to bring in water plastic reusable water bottles. These will be used on huaka’i days. Please label with your keiki’s name. These will not be used for daily use in class.
Reading in the papa 1: Throughout the first trimester, our keiki have been working hard at reading independently in order to build their stamina. My goal has been to build reading fluency within emergent readers and build comprehension with proficient readers. For many of our keiki, a big goal is to read in chunks then phrases. For some, I am working at breaking the habit of sounding out each letter of a word when approaching unknown words by working on blends, digraphs, word families, and identifying words that repeat. For students that are reading fluently, we work on comprehension. Identifying story characteristics and being able to retell using detail. When at home, please support your keiki and have them read aloud to you.
IXL for Homework: Beginning this Thursday, iPads will be coming home for students to work on IXL. IXL homework goals will be written in your keiki’s planner, student goals is to achieve 80% or better. If IXL homework is complete, students may use iPad to read on Raz Kids and work on Prodigy. Please make sure that iPads come back to school on Friday.
Makahiki: We have been invited to participate in Makahiki activities up at the high school next week Wednesday, Nov. 7. More details to come…
