{"id":72,"date":"2012-03-10T10:05:00","date_gmt":"2012-03-10T10:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/naisconference\/?p=72"},"modified":"2012-03-10T10:05:00","modified_gmt":"2012-03-10T10:05:00","slug":"ideas-from-the-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/naisconference\/2012\/03\/10\/ideas-from-the-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Ideas from the Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Here are a few ideas that have stayed with me since leaving the conference:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>KS could leverage to a far greater extent our distance learning capacity via ISC \u2013 this includes everything from greater integration between the three K-12 campuses, to development of a virtual campus (online degree program), offering an online speakers bureau, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>This segues nicely into the idea of having a Speakers Bureau, possibly connected to Kaiwakiloumoku but also in collaboration with ISC (the online version).\u00a0 KS should be a thought leader, not just in Hawaiian culture and history, but also in areas like indigenous education, faith and culture integration, or anything really.\u00a0 We have incredible talent and knowledge among our staff, why wouldn\u2019t we want to develop and package that in a way that can be used beyond Kamehameha?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We need to start putting more emphasis in the hiring process in finding people who have a heart for our mission and can buy into the expectations of being part of KS, rather than in simply finding people who have the right skill sets.\u00a0 Obviously, having the right skill set is important, but it\u2019s not <em>enough<\/em>.\u00a0 We need to make our values (Christian and Hawaiian) and expectations for support, participation and \u201cSmall L\u201d leadership known to people before they sign on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>What promises are we making to parents in our values vision and mission statements?\u00a0 I keep thinking about the simplicity of Ranney School\u2019s mission that every child will be \u201cknown and valued.\u201d\u00a0 What is KS promising to parents?\u00a0 And how do we communicate that?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>KS should consider establishing \u201cState of the School\u201d webcasts, by Headmasters (for each campus) and by the CEO for the institution (alumni, general public).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>That same week of the conference I saw a Facebook post about a new kind of college called EARTH University.\u00a0 I have not been able to stop thinking about it because it seems like a perfect \u201cfit\u201d for KS, given our focus on sustainability and aloha\/malama `aina, as well as our considerable agricultural acreage.\u00a0 It has the potential to combine everything we care about at KS \u2013 education, culture, economic sustainability \u2013 with faith, servant leadership and good stewardship naturally and easily incorporated into the mix \u2013 and a template already exists for the program.\u00a0 Here is the url: \u00a0http:\/\/www.earth-usa.org\/<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are a few ideas that have stayed with me since leaving the conference: KS could leverage to a far greater extent our distance learning capacity via ISC \u2013 this includes everything from greater integration between the three K-12 campuses, &hellip;
