Overview

Math grade 6 is a one-year course that emphasizes the necessary skills of mathematics. Lesson themes relating to consumer uses of mathematics are intended to show real-life applications. Problem-solving, critical thinking and all of the Standards of Mathematical Practice will be stressed.

Students will learn about the following topics/skills:

    2. Fractions
    3. Decimals
    4. Factors and Multiples
  2. Ratios and Proportional Reasoning
    1. Ratio
    2. Unit Rate
    3. Percent
  3. Expressions and Equations
    1. Numerical Expressions
    2. Algebraic Expressions
    3. Equations
    4. Inequalities
  4. Geometry
    1. Area of Polygons
    2. Surface Area of Solids
    3. Volume of Solids
  5. Statistics and Probability
    1. Displaying Data
    2. Analyzing Data
    3. Summarizing Data

Grading Policy

Grades will be based on the following weighted categories:

Formative Assessments    20% (Homework/Bell Assignments)

Summative Assessments   80% (40% Tests/Quizzes/Projects)

Student Supplies:     

  1. #2 pencils
  2. Blue or black pen
  3. Red pen

General Expectations

  1. Follow the rules of Kamehameha Schools as outlined in the Student-Parent Handbook.
  2. Be in your seat and ready to learn when the bell rings. Permission is required to leave the room.
  3. Have all necessary materials ready before entering class.
  4. Drink water and use the bathroom prior to class.
