My name is Lance Tachino and I am the Project Manager for the Maui Elementary School 1 to 1 Student iPad Project.  I have had the opportunity to work on the majority of the student 1 to 1 projects at the Kapalama and Hawaii campuses.  This is my first communication to teachers, administrators and staff regarding this project.  The information below is designed to give you a brief overview of the project.  For two months, the 1 to 1 project team has been meeting to develop a comprehensive plan to determine how best to roll-out the student iPads and teacher MacBook’s.  The core project planning team consists of 6 individuals:

This a three year project, with the first year (SY 2014-2015) being primarily a planning year the second year (SY 2015-2016) will be the student iPad implementation and the final year (SY 2016-2017) as the assessment and operational turnover year.

I will be coming to meet teachers in their classrooms with Jon Kimoto on Wednesday, February 25, between 10:00-11:00 am.  Hope to meet all of you.

Maui Campus Elementary School 1 to 1 Student iPad Project

This is how one of my 3rd grade small groups integrated technology with the iPad.

We did a lesson which included a small passage about beavers. The students enjoyed the text & were asking questions about different beaver facts. I decided to use the next lesson as both my Instructional Shift Lesson & an extended lesson on Beavers. We read a few different texts about beavers. We found information to deepen our learning about beavers & answer our “wonderings” using evidence from the text. After researching different topics the students wrote & sketched their new learning. We then used the Explain Everything App on the iPad to organize our work, create oral presentations & then uploaded our project into a video presentation.

Making a positive educational and inter-generational difference by creating a quality learning environment that advances our Haumana to higher levels of achievement. Some outcomes of our educational environment are as follows:

• Students learn 21^st century skills

• Assessment – Nyles – role: to plan and coordinate assessments focused throughout the project rollout
• Logistics – Val & Kauko – role: to work with sub-committees to assist in securing facility, equipment, purchases, etc. and complete necessary paperwork
• Print & Repair – Val & Kauko – role: to facilitate and implement a “Print and Repair” area that will meet the needs of technology repair and printing issues
• Communication – Jon & Lance – role: to facilitate open communication with stakeholders through print, email, blog and other methods
