Ke Poʻolua – Dual Credit Program

Ke Poʻolua Dual Credit Program offers a curriculum of intensive study for strongly motivated and academically qualified high school students during the regular school year.  This unique partnership between Kamehameha Schools Maui, the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, and Hawaii Pacific University allows high school students to attend college classes on the Kamehameha Schools Maui campus earning both high school and college credits. These courses are rigorous and expectations for students are high.  Students are also subject to all college expectations and requirements as all courses are taught by UH Maui College professors and adjunct KS Instructors.  The added benefit of this program is that the college tuition for dual credit courses is paid for by Kamehameha Schools Maui.

It is important to note that once enrolled in a course, a student will not have the ability to withdraw or drop a dual credit course.  Students will be financially responsible if they fail to complete the course within the semester or if they receive a non-passing grade.

Kamehameha Schools Maui High School students are also eligible to earn a Certificate of Competency in Cyber Security through the UH Maui College.  The Certificate of Competency is open to ALL students regardless of their declared Academy.  The required courses for the certificate include ICS 101, ICS 110, ICS 184, and ICS 171.  Further information regarding these courses are listed on page 17.  With the successful completion of required courses, students are able to graduate with their Academy Endorsement and the Certificate of Competency.  Please note that students DO NOT need to be a part of the Information Technology Academy in order to earn this certificate.

Upon graduation, many of our students are able to transfer the credits earned to the college or university they enroll in.  Some are even able to count these courses toward their college graduation requirements, potentially shortening the length of their undergraduate college career.  We highly suggest you contact your college of choice to confirm the transfer credit processes.  For more information about Ke Poʻolua Dual Credit Program, contact Mr. Leo Delatori, ledelato@ksbe.edu.

Dual Credit Courses Offered

To qualify:  Students must meet stringent application deadlines for taking the UH Maui Placement test which determines eligibility to take these courses.  Students should contact UH Maui directly to make arrangements to take the test.  There is a fee to take the test, but the first is at no charge.  Kamehameha Schools Maui does not cover the cost of the test.

ICS101 Digital Tools for the Information World does not require the UH Maui Placement Test, but does require completion of necessary UH Maui/KS Maui applications.
