About Outreach

KS LOGOKamehameha Maui School Counselors’ Mission:

“Our mission as Kamehameha Schools Counselors is to support the vision and mission of the Kamehameha Schools and to provide a      comprehensive counseling program which addresses the                  personal/social, academic and career needs of all students.”

No kahi ka pilikia, pau a pau. “When one is in trouble, all give aid.”

-Mary Kawena Pukui

Our work as Outreach counselors is guided by this proverb and our belief that it takes a village to raise a child. In this day-and-age, raising and caring for our children can be very challenging. Our children are constantly responding to demands put on them in school, at home and in their family. Personal, social and academic pressures can mount up, causing them to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Without the appropriate skills, these feelings can manifest themselves into everything from dropping grades, low motivation and illness.

Our vision is that every member of the KS Maui ʻohana has a safe place to go for support in his or her time of need. We make this our mission by investing in building authentic relationships with our students and families in order to provide support and resources in their time of need. Our objective is to create a network of support around each member of the KS Maui ‘ohana so they have the resources and tools needed to meet their needs and reach their goals.

Outreach services are created and provided with the Lōkahi Wheel in mind. In order to maintain harmony and balance in our lives, we must care for every aspect of what makes us who we are. We collaborate with grade-level counselors and teachers to create support plans and when necessary, provide counseling services and make referrals to outside community resources.

 Let us introduce ourselves!

Personal: I graduated from Kamehameha Schools Kapālama in 1997 and later from the University of Washington. I began working with children with Autism while pursuing my Masters degrees in Marriage & Family Therapy. I recently returned home to Maui after living in Colorado for 7 years where I worked as a Child & Family Therapist. After having our  daughters, my husband and I decided to come home to raise our children closer to family. In December of 2011, I was hired on as the second Outreach counselor for the Maui campus in hopes of further expanding the counseling services to reach more students and families.
