{"id":690,"date":"2013-08-14T15:07:28","date_gmt":"2013-08-15T01:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/lithomps\/?page_id=690"},"modified":"2020-08-16T21:26:31","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T07:26:31","slug":"pe-syllabus-2013-14-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/lithomps\/pe-syllabus-2013-14-2\/","title":{"rendered":"PE SYLLABUS 2020\/21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><b>PE Syllabus<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Course Summary 2020\/21<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Kamehameha Middle School Physical Education Department <\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>\u00a0Linda Thompson<br \/>\nlithomps@ksbe.edu 982-0479<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>There have been some changes due to Distance Learning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Physical Education Program is designed to develop the emotional, mental, physical, and social aspects of living necessary for a happy and productive life.\u00a0 Emphasis in the program is placed on providing an opportunity for individual growth and success.<\/p>\n<p><b>COURSE GOALS:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>*To create and maintain physical, social, and mental fitness<br \/>\n*To develop a basic knowledge of skills, cleanliness, sportsmanship, and leadership.<br \/>\n*To instill healthy life habits that will help them become productive citizens at school, home and in the community.<\/p>\n<p><b>COURSE MATERIALS:<\/b><br \/>\nVarious internet websites, handouts and multimedia sources, online fitness logs are used to keep track of student\u2019s progress.\u00a0 Skill progression is developed through verbal instruction\/demonstration and student practice time.<\/p>\n<p><b>LEARNER EXPECTATIONS:<\/b><br \/>\nKamehameha students are expected to do their personal best. Everyone has different abilities and talents, and students should work hard on improving them. It is their kuleana. They must learn how to cooperate and work well with \u2028their peers. The purpose of the program is to help them accomplish this.<\/p>\n<p><b>General Information:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>**LABEL EVERYTHING&#8230; LABEL&#8230; EVERYTHING**<\/strong><br \/>\n<b>*Be on time.<br \/>\n*Wear proper PE uniform\u2028.<br \/>\n*Participate daily.<br \/>\n*Excused absences- make up work unless it is a medical excuse, ie., broken leg.<br \/>\n*Shower at the end of each class.<br \/>\n*Keep an extra pair of under garments and socks in your locker.<br \/>\n*Keep locker locked \u2013 return at the end of the year. ($7 for missing locks)\u2028.<br \/>\n*Pick up after yourself.<br \/>\n*Secure your belongings.<br \/>\n*No Loitering or horseplay in the locker rooms.<br \/>\n*Students will not enter the office or equipment areas unless given permission by the teacher.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Student Needs:<\/b><br \/>\n<strong>1. Three P.E. Shirts labeled as instructed by P.E. Teacher.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>2. Three P.E. Shorts labeled as instructed by P.E. Teacher.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>3. Athletic Shoes must be the same color as the School shoe color.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>4. Socks as defined by handbook.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>5. Personal Hygiene products i.e. shampoo, body soap, deodorant, brush, etc.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>6. Extra under garments and socks to be left in their lockers* \u00a0This is very important as we often get caught out in the rain!<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>7. \u00a0One piece Black bathing suit.\u00a0 Boys solid black swim shorts.\u00a0 Swim goggles.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>8. \u00a0Bike Helmet. (please see me if you are not able to get this.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><i>***PLEASE LABEL <\/i>ALL<i> OF YOUR CHILD\u2019S BELONGINGS***<br \/>\nLABEL ALL OF YOUR CHILD&#8217;S BELONGINGS<br \/>\nLABEL EVERYTHING<br \/>\nLABEL!<\/i><\/strong><\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>*Please refer to the Student and Parent Handbook<\/p>\n<p><b>SWIMMING POOL RULES AND REGULATIONS:<\/b><br \/>\n*Shower prior to entering pool.\u2028*Walk on pool deck.\u2028*No pushing or shoving people into the pool. \u2028*Students with a fever, open sores, or bandaged wounds are not allowed in pool. *Contamination is prohibited.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Students will need to bring bathing suit, GOGGLES and towel to class on swim days. \u00a0Any missed assessed swim days MUST be made up or student will receive a ZERO. Swimming is a very important aspect of our PE program.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>**PE uniforms are required during every PE class meeting. Lack of PE uniform will result in the following:\u2028 <\/i><\/b><i>PER TRIMESTER <b>3 days <\/b>no uniform (Level 1-\u00ad<\/i><i>\u2010<\/i><i>Dress code violation) = 5 days teacher detention using card + parent contact via phone or email + point deduction from cumulative \u201cformative uniform\u201d grade.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>GRADING:<\/b><br \/>\n<b>80% Summative Assessment-<\/b><br \/>\n<b>*Run times\/ based on individual effort\/improvement<br \/>\n*Swim times\/ based on individual effort\/improvement<br \/>\n*Skills\/performance- final<br \/>\n<\/b><b>*Final tests<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>20% Formative<\/b><br \/>\n<b>*Run times<\/b>\u2028<b>*Swim times<\/b>\u2028<b>*Class work \u2028*Journal writing \u2028*Teacher and self -evaluations \u2028*Quizzes \u2028*Homework\u2028<\/b><br \/>\n*<b>Warm-up and activities\/sports are also graded for participation, effort, sportsmanship, and showing respect to the teacher, self, and others.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>All SUMMATIVE grades are allowed to be made up.\u00a0 Please\u00a0 communicate with me.\u00a0 Swimming can be challenging, but please let me know what works regarding swim make-ups.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>If students cannot participate due to an injury or illness, they will be sent to the health room.\u00a0 Please send a note and be specific with NON-Participation requests.\u00a0 Email or call me with any concerns.<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS YEAR?<br \/>\nActivities planned are as follows, but are subject to change are:<br \/>\nSwimming\u2028-Biking-\u2028Running-<br \/>\nFitness, Cooperative Games, Jump roping, Kickboxing, Yoga, Step aerobics, Dance\u2028, Basketball and more\u2028.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The <i>running program <\/i>at the middle school is designed to help improve their cardiovascular endurance and to prepare them for the high school PE program.
