{"id":17,"date":"2012-08-20T05:00:17","date_gmt":"2012-08-20T05:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/ksonlinelearning\/?p=17"},"modified":"2012-05-30T01:39:50","modified_gmt":"2012-05-30T01:39:50","slug":"blended-learning-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/ksonlinelearning\/2012\/08\/20\/blended-learning-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Blended Learning?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Blended learning<\/strong> is an methodological approach to instruction that mixes different environments: \u00a0classroom learning, online learning and mobile learning.<\/p>\n<p>Learning in this multi-level environment may also be synchronous, in real-time, and asynchronous, at the pace of individual learners.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed,<strong> blended learning<\/strong>, indeed, has several advantages and great attributes!<\/p>\n<p>For students, <strong>blended learning<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>meets their expectations for utilizing technology;<\/li>\n<li>develops independent learning skills;<\/li>\n<li>offers increased flexibility and convenience;<\/li>\n<li>provides better access to those with job, family, or distance barriers; and,<\/li>\n<li>helps reduce educational costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>For educators, <strong>blended learning<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>gives them access to new resources;<\/li>\n<li>introduces them to online learning;<\/li>\n<li>is an opportunity for faculty development and lets them experiment with new pedagogies and techniques;<\/li>\n<li>helps meet student expectations and build student skills;<\/li>\n<li>allows for more flexible scheduling; and,<\/li>\n<li>retains the face-to-face aspect faculty may cherish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And furthermore, <strong>blended learning<\/strong> offers administrators the following advantages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>impacts the entire institution.<\/li>\n<li>offers a learner-centered pedagogy.<\/li>\n<li>may integrate with the strategic plan.<\/li>\n<li>improves classroom utilization.<\/li>\n<li>can help match delivery to academic need.<\/li>\n<li>can help fill under-enrolled courses and programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/EDUCAUSE+Quarterly\/EDUCAUSEQuarterlyMagazineVolum\/TheBlendedLearningToolkitImpro\/242790\">Here<\/a> is an overview of <strong>blended learning<\/strong> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/\">EDUCAUSE<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/eq\">EQ Quarterly<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blended learning is an methodological approach to instruction that mixes different environments: \u00a0classroom learning, online learning and mobile learning.
