Ha‘awina

Ha‘awina or homework is an important part of a student’s academic success at KMS, but if it is not managed successfully, homework can create a huge amount of stress and anxiety amongst students, parents and teachers. All work should be completed in a timely manner to avoid a negative impact on learning and grades.

Tips for success for students:

  • Know what the homework is and when it is due. Refer to Blackboard, the Lehua homework board and individual class spaces. You are encouraged to write assignments in your SAB immediately when assigned to avoid “forgetting” when assignments are due. Being absent does not excuse you from assignments. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was missed from class. Extended deadlines are given for excused absences.
  • Do not procrastinate. Begin assignments as soon as it is given.
  • Do your work to the best of your ability. Do not rush just to complete an assignment. However, missing deadlines because you are a perfectionist is not ok.
  • If you do not understand the assignment, ask for help. Teachers are available most days during lunch recess and 5th block study hall. If you want to come in during lunch recess, you must pre-arrange it with the teacher so that they can let you into the building.
