In addition to P\u016b\u02bbulu Koa core group of teachers, students receive instruction from teachers in the areas of PE, Exploratory Classes and various Elective classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P\u016b\u02bbulu Koa<\/strong> is also made up of 7 <strong><em>Advisory Kumu<\/em><\/strong> who are there to support and assist students in smaller groups on a more personal level.\u00a0 Advisory Kumu include: Kumu Akana, Kumu Lorenzo, Kumu Scott and Kumu Terai, Mr. Omo, Kumu Porreca, and Mrs. Yamane.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Kumu Momi Akana<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><em>Papa Pili Kanaka (Social Studies)<br \/>\nleakana@ksbe.edu<br \/>\n<\/em>Kumu Akana is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. She has a BA in Hawaiian Studies and an MA in Hawaiian History. She has taught the Pili Kanaka class for over 30 years at Kamehameha. She has also taught Hawaiian language at Windward and Kapi\u2019olani Community Colleges. She is the author of the book \u201cThe O\u2019ahu Exploits of Kamapua\u2019a, the Hawaiian Pig God.\u201d She also enjoys hula, having taken classes from Maiki Aiu, Hoakalei Kamau\u2019u and George Holokai.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Kumu Anne Lorenzo<br \/>\nPapa \u2018Epekema (Science)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/anlorenz@ksbe.edu\">anlorenz@ksbe.edu<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><\/em>Kumu Lorenzo began her explorations into the natural sciences at a young age; her mother frequently found many critters in her pockets when doing laundry. As a result Kumu Lorenzo began emptying her own pockets before laundry at age three. Kumu Lorenzo\u2019s passions lie in sharing the wonders of the natural world with anyone open to the experience.<em><br \/>\nKumu Lorenzo earned her Bachelor\u2019s of Science and teaching credential from the University of Southern California (Fight On, Trojans!) and began her teaching career in 1997. She returned to USC and completed her Master\u2019s <\/em>of Science in Science Education in 2001.<br \/>\nKumu Lorenzo has taught grades 3-9 in the formal classrooms of public, private, and charter schools in California, Nevada, and Hawai\u02bbi. She has also had the privilege of teaching all ages in the best informal science classroom, the Honolulu Zoo. In her tenure at the Honolulu Zoo, Kumu Lorenzo instructed animal lovers of all ages from infants to k\u016bpuna, enriching their experiences through school &amp; community outreach programs, school tours, private tours, and animal encounters.<br \/>\nKumu Lorenzo resides in \u02bbEwa Beach with her amazing husband, Keala, and two adventurous boys, Kaihohonu &amp; Kaaumoana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Kumu Kim Terai, P\u016b\u02bbulu Koa Team Lead<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><em>Papa Makemakika<\/em> (Math)<br \/>\n<a href=\"kiterai@ksbe.edu\">kiterai@ksbe.edu<\/a><br \/>\nKumu Kim Terai is the Math Kumu on P\u016b\u02bbulu Kukui. Kumu Terai is honored to return and serve at Kamehameha after teaching for eleven years in San Antonio, TX where she taught students in the Edgewood School District grades 2-12. A 1988 graduate of Kamehameha, Kumu Terai earned her Bachelor\u2019s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Master\u2019s degree in Educational Leadership from St. Mary\u2019s University. In 2010, she received her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California.
