{"id":2,"date":"2010-05-12T16:17:53","date_gmt":"2010-05-13T02:17:53","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-03-31T16:19:55","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T02:19:55","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kibrown\/about-us\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"Philosophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8216;O ke kahua ma mua, ma hope ke k\u016bkulu&#8230;<\/em>The foundation comes first and then the building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We believe that Kamehameha Schools as a Hawaiian institution and its learners have a responsibility to practice and perpetuate &#8216;Ike Hawai&#8217;i as a source of strength and resilience for the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kamehameha Schools will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>foster pride in the Hawaiian culture, language, history and traditions that serve as its foundation.<\/li>\n<li>integrate &#8216;Ike Hawai&#8217;i into its educational programs and services.<\/li>\n<li>provide the necessary learning opportunities, resources and training to depen the understanding of &#8216;Ike Hawai&#8217;i.<\/li>\n<li>strengthen the relationship and the responsibility of its learners to the &#8216;\u0101ina, its resources and traditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We believe that every learner possesses a unique combination of talents, abilities, interests and needs an that each is able to achieve higher levels of excellence.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kamehameha Schools will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>acknowledge the uniqueness of each learner.<\/li>\n<li>assist each learner in achieving core understandings and skills.<\/li>\n<li>offer enrichment opportunities to encourage each learner to develop individual talents and interests.<\/li>\n<li>strive to be available and affordable to encourage broad participation of the learning community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We believe that the earliest years of a child&#8217;s life are the most critical to development and set the stage for future learning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kamehameha Schools will assist by providing early childhood educational services that support families as the primary educators of their children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We believe that positive and nurturing relationships are an essential foundation of learning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>all members of the Kamehameha \u02bbohana that includes learners, staff, families and alumni are role models and will demonstrate attitudes and behaviors consistent with Hawaiian and Christian values.<\/li>\n<li>all will develop and support positive connections and interactions with learners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We believe that the quality of instruction is enhanced by collaboration, professional development and the application of research based practices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kamehameha Schools will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide time and resources for professional development and collaboration.<\/li>\n<li>support and engage in research and evaluation activities to improve the quality and effectiveness of education.<\/li>\n<li>extend professional development opportunities to its learning communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each member of the learning community will commit to ongoing professional development and collaboration to optimize learner success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We believe that involvement of the learner and all members of the learner&#8217;s community enhance education.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kamehameha Schools programs will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide opportunities for learners to share in and assume greater responsibility for their own development.<\/li>\n<li>promote the active involvement of families.<\/li>\n<li>encourage open communication and seek input from those impacted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We believe that the effectiveness of our institution in meeting its mission is enhanced by collaboration and partnerships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kamehameha Schools will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>recognize and encourage the good works of other programs and institutions.<\/li>\n<li>contribute to building a network of services to meet the life-long educational needs of Hawaiians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;O ke kahua ma mua, ma hope ke k\u016bkulu&#8230;The foundation comes first and then the building.
