COPE Junior Health Scholars (ages 16 or older) serve at Adventist Health Castle Hospital to gain firsthand experience across a range of health career specializations. There are no GPA or science pre-requirements; applicants should be ready to serve patients with aloha and strong work ethic. Program fees are $225 for 9 month program or $495 for 3 month option. Those who complete 160 hours earn a certificate from the Keck Graduate Institute, a member of The Claremont Colleges. Rolling, year-round monthly admissions.
The LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORERS PROGRAM (LEEP) is led by local Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers to support youth to learn about the purpose of law enforcement, basic law enforcement procedures and protocols, and develop and apply teamwork and leadership skills in community service activities. Program offers year-round, twice-a-month weekend workshops at the Police Academy. Eligibility requirements: age 14-20; any gender; GPA of 2.5 or higher; no prior arrests or serious traffic violations, and be a person of good conduct and high moral character. THE PEARL HARBOR NAVAL SHIPYARD APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM supports those 18 & over to obtain an Associate’s Degree from Honolulu Community College in a variety of Applied Trades, and a certificate from the State Department of Labor, while getting paid for on-the-job training! The HAWAI’I CARPENTERS APPRENTICESHIP & TRAINING FUND invites applicants, 17 & older, on O’ahu, Kaua’i, Maui, Hawai’i isle (Hilo & Kona). Apprentices train at select job sites while getting $20.20 per hour; after completing training with certification, pay increases every 1,000 hours, with experienced workers earning $50-75 per hour.
