{"id":268,"date":"2017-04-25T13:35:43","date_gmt":"2017-04-25T23:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/kesscience\/?p=268"},"modified":"2017-04-25T13:35:43","modified_gmt":"2017-04-25T23:35:43","slug":"na-wai-ekolu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kesscience\/2017\/04\/25\/na-wai-ekolu\/","title":{"rendered":"Na Wai \u2018Ekolu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Na Wai \u2018Ekolu is an environmental studies program about the 3 waters in the Ala Wai watershed.\u00a0 We teachers have had an opportunity to learn more about this with meetings in our educational community.\u00a0 Cory Yap from the University of Hawai\u2019i is an amazing field biologist that likes to work with all kinds of teachers and kids to help them learn more about stream habitats.\u00a0 We are fortunate to have him come to help us explore more about streams in an experiment with a group of multi-ages students from Grade 1-10, Grade 2-12 and Grade 3-303.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-273 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kesscience\/files\/2017\/04\/Screen-Shot-2017-04-25-at-1.28.47-PM-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"298\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cory\u00a0shared about stream life in Hawai\u2019i in a class presentation with living examples of native and introduced animals.\u00a0 He came back to teach us methods to capture stream life and separate the invasive introduced species from the natives.\u00a0 Look at the cool nets we will use in teams to check out the stream life!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-272 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kesscience\/files\/2017\/04\/Screen-Shot-2017-04-25-at-1.29.34-PM-300x191.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"257\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-271\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kesscience\/files\/2017\/04\/Screen-Shot-2017-04-25-at-1.29.23-PM-224x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-270 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kesscience\/files\/2017\/04\/Screen-Shot-2017-04-25-at-1.29.11-PM-300x220.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"215\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The natives go back into the stream and the invasive ones will go to be fertilizer in an environmental program in the back of Kalihi valley.\u00a0 They will help plants grow.\u00a0 Our three classes will take a morning and go to Manoa Stream to see what we can find out about stream life from the inside of the stream!\u00a0 There could be more of this in our future with more classes\u2026.stay tuned and think about how you can help our native streams too!!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-269 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kesscience\/files\/2017\/04\/Screen-Shot-2017-04-25-at-1.28.59-PM-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"366\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Na Wai \u2018Ekolu is an environmental studies program about the 3 waters in the Ala Wai watershed.\u00a0 We teachers have had an opportunity to learn more about this with meetings in our educational community.\u00a0 Cory Yap from the University of &hellip;
