{"id":709,"date":"2014-10-15T22:05:13","date_gmt":"2014-10-16T08:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/kesk3specials\/?page_id=709"},"modified":"2019-10-25T17:04:06","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T03:04:06","slug":"student-progress","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kes34specials\/student-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Communicating and Reporting Student Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At Kamehameha Elementary, our students are offered unique instruction in subject areas beyond their regular classroom experiences.\u00a0 Specialists teach these classes.\u00a0 We develop and coordinate our programs in art, Christian Education, \u02bb\u014clelo a Mo\u02bbomeheu, music, PE and health, science and technology with information literacy.\u00a0 We work with hundreds of students across the grade levels and have ongoing classes and special activities and projects throughout the academic year.\u00a0 As part of developing quality programs to meet the needs of your child, we Specialist communicate about your child\u2019s learning in various ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classroom teachers and Specialist teachers share comments and observations about your child\u2019s progress during the year.<\/strong>\u00a0 Counselors frequently contact us for special observations and may request additional information about children with special needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We may communicate directly with you regarding your child\u2019s progress and work in our classes.\u00a0<\/strong> We may call you or have your child call you about specific situations during our classes.\u00a0 A special subject communication note may be sent home to share significant information with you.\u00a0 A sample is included for your reference.\u00a0 Please note the parent signature line.\u00a0 When your child brings home this note, we would appreciate you reviewing it with your child and signing the bottom.\u00a0 Your child needs to return it to the appropriate specialist teacher; your signature at the bottom will let us know you have been informed.\u00a0 We share these notes with the classroom teacher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grades for the special subject areas of art, \u02bb\u014clelo a Mo\u02bbomeheu, music, PE and science are given at the end of each semester\u2019s classes.<\/strong>\u00a0 You will receive report cards in January and at the end of the year.\u00a0 Evaluation of student progress is based upon a continuum of learning.\u00a0 Each successful student may pass through each of these stages as they learn more and more about a new subject area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Learners will be rated:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Emerging<\/strong><\/span><\/em> when they are beginning to build skills and concepts as they practice with teacher guidance and assistance to complete activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Progressing<\/strong><\/em><\/span> when they can use skills more independently and sustain their own learning activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Consistently Demonstrating<\/strong><\/span><\/em> when they show quality effort and work in a variety of<br \/>\nsettings.\u00a0 This work reflects an independent grasp of key concepts and skills and may<br \/>\ninclude applying these ideas to new situations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In reviewing your child\u2019s progress, please feel free to contact any special teacher.\u00a0<\/strong> You will find our phone numbers and email addresses in our contact section.\u00a0 You may also contact the elementary office and leave a message for any of us.\u00a0 We appreciate your interest and patience and will respond to you as soon as we can during our teaching days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are also glad to hear from you!\u00a0<\/strong> Please keep us informed about special information about your child.\u00a0 If your child will be missing school for reasons beyond regular absences, KES uses a Student Leave Request Form.\u00a0 There is a sample included here for your reference.\u00a0 Our classes emphasize student participation;
