They will\nlearn science by doing science. Haum\u0101na will create a dynamic concept of\ninterdependence.&nbsp; They will communicate their learning and develop their\nown conclusions based upon their experiences.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Students will begin the journey\nof formulating their kuana<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2018ike, their own perspective and\nworld view regarding their island environment\u2014ka \u2018\u0101ina and ke kai\u2014and their\nrelationship with our planet.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a commitment to steward our land and natural resources, the focus\nof our grade 4 Energy Conservation unit is for students to design a solution\nfor a sustainable clean energy future.&nbsp;\nStudents analyze the advantages, disadvantages, and environmental impacts\nof using a variety of renewable and nonrenewable natural resources.&nbsp; They draw conclusions about the most viable\nenergy resources to use in four locations around the world \u2013 as well as in\ntheir own state of Hawai\u02bbi.&nbsp; They recommend\nsolutions to address local needs considering factors such as climate,\navailability of natural resources, local attitudes, and environmental\ntrade-offs.&nbsp; Students work\ncollaboratively to design a model house that runs on renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are encouraged to share their own ideas through note-booking, group work,\u00a0 class discussions, debates, and a public product or presentation for a real audience.\u00a0 As a result, students develop content knowledge as well as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just some of the resources we use in Science class.
