21st Century Learner Vision<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The haum\u0101na will exit our kula ha\u02bbaha\u02bba as ethically proficient explorers, consumers and creators of knowledge who naturally integrate the Ho\u02bbonui i ka \u02bbike Learning Process into all content areas. Students will also use various digital tools throughout the learning process as they develop their research skills and enhance their appreciation for literature and reading. Their entire experience will help them build a foundation for 21st<\/sup>\u00a0century learning and prepare them to be steward leaders in a global society.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hi`ilei Media Center<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Our library is named after Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop\u2019s nickname: Hi`ilei. Did you know Princess Pauahi was often found reading under a tree to several children? You can tell that she was an avid reader too.<\/p>\n

Our library is also called a media center because it houses 16,000 various types of media including books, magazines, newspapers, videos, DVDs, CD-ROMS, and study prints. These various media formats support both the curriculum and students\u2019 interests. The media center also has a collection of Hawaiian books, videos, and artifacts. Computers in the media center are available for students to access the online catalog and the internet, and are also used to support students with school assignments.<\/p>\n

Information Literacy<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Students come to Hi`ilei Media Center to learn about reading and research skills that meet the 21st Century Learner Standards. This involves learning about how the library is organized, using resources for research by taking notes, encouraging students to appreciate reading, and locating information. Students may use the OPAC to find books in our library, click here to begin a search.<\/a><\/p>\n

Library Curriculum and Schedule<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Students in third grade receive a 60 minute library lesson on Day 2s ( rooms 302 and 303) and Day 3s (room 301 and 302).\u00a0 The transfer goal for third grade is “using their learning to utilize various sources and technology tools to enhance knowledge.”<\/span>\u00a0 The following traits are used to measure the transfer goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
