Traditionally, the \u02bbstrand\u2019 and the flowers in the <em>lei<\/em> would remind a person of his ancestors.<\/p>\n<p>Keawe is a <em>k\u016bpuna<\/em> name; in his book <em>Ruling Chiefs of Hawai\u02bbi<\/em> Samuel M. Kamakau names more than twenty chiefs, mainly on the island of Hawai\u02bbi, who carried the name Keawe.
