A flexible attitude develops within as a result of learning to give and take, and bend and sway in challenging situations. The bark of the olon\u0101 continues to be highly valued by Hawaiians because of its strong, durable nature. The Hawaiian value associated with the olon\u0101 is kuleana (responsibility). We envision a community of dedicated learners that uniquely contribute to the well-being of the l\u0101hui (Hawaiian population).<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">8th Grade P\u016b\u02bbulu<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Team names are taken from native hard wood trees. The names of the trees characterize different forms of light that are embodied in a flash of lightening (kauila), flickering flame (kukui), glowing reflection of the sun or moon (lama), and the lasting light of knowledge (olopua).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kaulualoha\/files\/2015\/03\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-05-at-3.01.45-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-53 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kaulualoha\/files\/2015\/03\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-05-at-3.01.45-PM.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-03-05 at 3.01.45 PM\" width=\"106\" height=\"124\" \/><\/a>P\u016b\u02bbulu Kauila<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><\/span>The kauila represents the light of excellence. From the skillful hands of a carver, ihe (spear), p\u0101hoa (dagger), hohoa (kapa beater), \u014d\u02bb\u014d (farming\/digging stick), \u02bbauamo (carrying stick), and kua kuhu (anvil) were shaped. The Hawaiian value associated with kauila is po\u02bbo kela (excellence). Boundaries and guidelines help to keep us safe and on task in our learning environment. The Hawaiian value associated with the lama is m\u0101lama (to care for one another, preserve, and protect).
