General Course Description: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Algebra 1 is a year-long course focusing primarily on mathematical problem solving using linear expressions, equations, and inequalities, functions and systems as well as an introduction to quadratic functions. Our overall goal is to deepen our understanding of the relationship of numbers to the world around us.<\/p>\n

This introductory course is organized around families of functions, with special emphasis on pattern recognition, linear equations and functions, polynomials, and an intro to quadratic functions. Students will learn to represent these functions in different ways \u2013 as verbal descriptions, equations, tables, and graphs. They will also learn to model real-world situations using functions in order to solve problems arising from those situations.<\/p>\n

\u00a0By the end of the year, students will: <\/em><\/p>\n

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them,<\/li>\n
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively,<\/li>\n
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others,<\/li>\n
  4. Model different situations with mathematics,<\/li>\n
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically,<\/li>\n
  6. Attend to precision in their work and persevere through the problem,<\/li>\n
  7. Look for and make use of structure,<\/li>\n
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
