{"id":80,"date":"2013-02-20T07:30:48","date_gmt":"2013-02-20T17:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/kapalamafoodandnutritionservices\/?p=80"},"modified":"2013-03-01T13:34:10","modified_gmt":"2013-03-01T23:34:10","slug":"kapalama-brownies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kapalamafoodandnutritionservices\/2013\/02\/20\/kapalama-brownies\/","title":{"rendered":"Kapalama Brownies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kapalama\u00a0 Brownies <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cream together:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 1\/2 cups brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 cups granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>2 1\/2 sticks softened butter (or margarine)<\/li>\n<li>1 level tablespoon baking powder<\/li>\n<li><i>[1 tsp. vanilla* (not in original recipe)]<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Add and mix in 4 cups <i>[3-3\/4 cups pre-sifted with baking powder]<\/i> all-purpose flour until incorporated. Add and mix in 6 large eggs until creamy. Add and mix in 1 1\/2 cups diced walnuts.Mix on low with paddle for 30 seconds if using Kitchen Aid-style mixer. If not available, then mix with wooden spoon to incorporate, but if mixing by hand, add eggs before the flour. (A hand-held mixer may not be powerful enough for this heavy batter, but try if you like.) \u00a0DO NOT OVERBEAT!Scrape down sides of bowl and then mix on medium speed for 2 minutes <i>[just until all ingredients are incorporated]<\/i> or by spoon for 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Grease two 13-by-9-by-2-inch pans and preheat oven to 375-400 <i>[325 for \u201chot\u201d oven]<\/i> degrees. (Note: If pan sizes are different, pour batter to a maximum of three-quarters of an inch deep.)Divide mix evenly into pans and place on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">bottom rack<\/span> and bake <i>[25-30 minutes]<\/i>. Brownies will rise gradually for about 25 minutes and then flatten.
