Back to School Night ‘Ohana Survey Drives Instruction

When parents were asked, “What do you believe to be your child’s greatest need?” The three needs that overwhelmingly surfaced were: social emotional development, writing, and goal setting.

In response to this valuable mana’o, this trimester we have been working on creating our own writing pieces in order to strengthen the connection we feel to places around us on our island. Because this is a larger project, students have been setting daily goals for work time and tracking their progress towards these goals.

In just a couple of weeks we will be going on huaka’i to visit some of the places that students have shown great interest in through their writing. To provide an authentic context for students, they will be sharing their writing with peers on this huaka’i. We are excited to learn from one another, and to build a foundation for sense of kuleana to these places.
