Jumping Our Hearts Out

Jump, jump, jump! Our Keiki couldn’t stop jumping, and it was all for a great cause. Jump Rope For Heart was held at kula haʻa haʻa this afternoon to raise money for the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease.

The kids also challenged each other to jumping contests to see who could jump the longest. Justin and Kamaka outlasted and outjumped their classmates in the first round going forward. Ariana and Braden jumped the longest with the rope going backward.

Hoʻomaikaʻi to all of our haumāna for helping out a great cause!

Hoʻomaikaʻi Adriana Lynn for being selected as the Outstanding Businesswoman for 2016! Adriana’s Spa Products, including homemade lip balms and bath bombs, made the greatest profit in her class. She offered quality products for an affordable price. This businesswoman worked hard from the get-go in preparing for her first independent business venture ever. Hard-work, perseverance and smart business planning were key to the success of this young entrepreneur. Awesome work, Adriana!

Lamakū Highlights

It’s been an amazing week with our students being the Lamakū, or torch that shines bright, to share their manaʻo and speaking talents with our kula haʻahaʻa community.  We were so proud to have Ariana, Tatiana, Lehani, Caylee and Dylan representing Papa ʻEkolu with their wonderful performances of fables.

Mahalo to all the haumana in Third Grade that participated in Lamakū throughout the week.  Your hard work and perseverance was truly evident in the outstanding performances that we viewed in our homerooms and semi-finals.  Every one of you made us proud!

Here is the link to view today’s performances at Lunalilo Hale for the Lamakū finals. Mahalo to Mr. Kamisato for always capturing these memorable moments in photos and film!

Huakaʻi to Hilo Farmers’ Market

Papa ‘Ekolu students once again had the opportunity to play the role of consumers. This time it was at the Hilo Farmers’ Market where they shopped for items in specific food categories. Another goal of the Third Graders was to make observations of the many vendors in business in the downtown Hilo market. The students were looking for ideas as they plan to open their very own business in school. This was an educational trip which involved problem solving and mathematical skills as well as observational skills to learn about our economy. Real life experiences is the best type of education for any student!
