Honoring Charles Reed Bishop

“The Charles Reed Bishop Trust is a charitable trust established by Mr. Charles Reed Bishop in 1895. Today, the trust carries forward Bishop’s vision of civic generosity and his desire, in life as in death, to perpetuate the shared values, legacy and memory of Bernice Pauahi Bishop, his wife, whom he held so dear.” (KS E-News)

Today we honored and celebrated the birthday of Charles Reed Bishop with an all-school convocation. Did you know Mr. Bishop built most of the first school’s buildings, hired and paid teachers and supported programs from his own private funds? He also founded the Preparatory Department for orphaned boys under age 12.

Let us give thanks to Mr. Bishop and his beloved wife, Ke ‘Ali’i Pauahi, for what they provide for us today and for Hawaiians in the future.
