For 19 years, our kula has held a Speech Festival for students in grades K-5. \u00a0Coordinated and nurtured by our former 5th grade kumu, Mrs. Nani Pai, every student participates by choosing a poem, fable mo\u02bbolelo and even a debatable topic. \u00a0Semi-finalists are chosen from each class with the finalists selected to perform in front over 350 students, faculty, staff and parents\/\u02bbohana.<\/p>\n

In honor of Mrs. Pai, we re-named the speech festival to, “Lamak\u016b<\/em>“, the torch or the best, the light, will lead the way. \u00a0We want our haum\u0101na to strive for excellence, to show their light and be the light for others. \u00a0It is their kuleana to carry the torch from the past and in to the future. \u00a0That is what Mrs. Pai expected from our keiki. \u00a0We recognized Mrs. Pai today at our Lamak\u016b event for leaving such a legacy for our students.<\/p>\n
