Aloha Parents,
If you have a child in the 3rd – 5th grade participating in this year’s ʻAha ʻŌpio (student council) Elections, please remind him or her that their application is due on Wednesday, 9-6-17, to Mr. Kudo. In order to meet our timeline of the campaign process, there will not be an extension of the due date unless your child is absent.
All candidates will be meeting with Mr. Kudo on Wednesday to go over the campaign guidelines. Your child will bring home a packet of information to provide guidance over the election process. Keep in mind that the campaign activities have changed to better support the purpose and objectives of ʻAha ʻŌpio noted below:
Purpose of ʻAha ʻŌpio:
- Give students a voice in bringing ideas, requests, and feedback to school administration
- Provide opportunities for students to practice leadership, problem solving and collaboration skills
- Reinforce our E Ola! Learner Outcomes (e.g., mālama, kuleana, mahalo, kahiau, hōʻihi, etc.)
Objectives of the campaign:
- Provide a process that will help students develop communication skills through public speaking and peer interaction
- Deemphasize material goods and emphasize building relationships (pilina)
- Run a fair and equitable campaign
- Focus on student strengths
- Reduce/eliminate financial cost to families
Please contact Mr. Kudo at 982-0235 or tikudo@ksbe.edu for any questions. Mahalo!
