This year’s ho`olaulea event will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012 on the Kamehameha Schools grounds between the middle school and elementary school. There will be entertainment, food, crafts, silent auctions, games, and more. Hope to see you there.
SOLAR OVEN CHALLENGE
Objective: Cook the mystery item using your own creative solar oven. Bring your completed solar oven and any supplies you may need to the ho`olaulea, register, cook and be judged. Winners to receives prizes as well as the title of the Aluminum Chef Challenge. This competition is open to students and their `ohana from around the island.
Location: Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Middle School
Times:
- 8:30 am registration
- 9 am “SECRET” ingredient to cook
- 9 – 12 cooking time
- 12 – 12:30 judging and winners announced

- K-5
- 6-8
- 9-12

Here’s a short video about the elements needed to build a solar oven and different models. These models are all manufactured commercially, however, you can make solar ovens out of aluminum foil, saran wrap, and pizza or shoe or any cardboard box.
