Merrie Monarch Parade 2011

On Saturday, March 30, 2011 the streets of down town Hilo were filled with spectators for the annual Merrie Monarch Parade. Here we see all the pageantry of the pa`u units, the Merrie Monarch Royal Court, floats from businesses, organizations, schools bands, military units and many various other kinds of participants.

For me it was exciting to see many of our current and past Kula Ha`aha`a students participate in the parade. We had some in the Royal court, some with their hula organizations, while others represented their sports.  The combined efforts of the our Kamehameha Schools Middle and High School band marched down into Hilo playing Imua Kamehameha.

Congratulations to all the participants of the Merrie Monarch Festival and to all our students who continue perpetuate the culture of hula, whether dancing at the opening ho`ike, watching the Merrie Monarch or in the parade.  Iʻm so very proud of you!
